Turtle Season is Approaching and Volunteers are Needed.

THE CENTRAL PACIFIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE is happy to announce that "Turtle Season" is fast approaching in Playa Hermosa and lots of hotels in Jaco are offering specials for stays.  Every year, The Olive Ridley sea turtle visits the Playa Hermosa Refuge as one of its nesting sites in Costa Rica. The nesting season starts in July and runs thru December. For the Playa Hermosa side of the Refuge, one can find Eng. Belford Cubillo Jimenez, Tec.José Manuel González Agüero, Tec.Marco Vinicio García Marín, and volunteers Johnny Chacón, Fernando Sanches and Ricardo Perez. On the Punta Mala side of the Refuge: one can find: Eng. Róger Arroyo Rojas, the Manager of the entire National Wildlife Refuge of Playa Hermosa and Punta Mala, Tec. Alvaro Bermudez,Mr. Fabián Villegas in charge of maintenance, Mr. Luis Castro their security officer and more volunteers working hard to prepare the nests and supply protection for the turtle eggs.The Playa Hermosa Wildlife Refuge currently boasts a 92% survival rate. Thanks to all of the help from businesses and persons in the zone including the Los Suenos Marriott, Hotel Bestwestern and local schools and the following members of the Chamber: the Hermosa Bungalows, Canciones Del Mar, Henry Kantrowitz, the Central Pacific Women's Group and Federico Mata's Turtle Nesting Run, the Refugio is on its way to preparing for the season.   If you would like to make a donation or help volunteer, please contact Gabriela Arias Chacon at the Chamber Office 2643-2853
