This is an annual surf event that benefits the community of Playa Hermosa. There is a beach clean up of Playa Guacalillo and Playa Hermosa. A visit to Playa Guacalillo raises awareness of the continued contamination that flows from the San Jose and into the Gulf of Nicoya. This year our efforts have been directed into road safety for the coastal highway that runs through Playa Hermosa due to increased traffic with the advent of the Caldera highway. The "expression session" is an informal format where local surfers, sponsored by local residents and businesses, compete for custom surfboards from local shapers and surf gear donated by local surf shops. This year the surf was in the double overhead range. Sunny skies provided for an epic event as spectators watched from the beach and purchased tee shirts and raffle tickets hoping to take home some surf gear or win a dinner for two at one of Hermosa/Jaco's finer dining establishments.
