WITH THE OPENING OF THE NEW HIGHWAY LINKING THE CENTRAL PACIFIC COAST TO THE CENTRAL VALLEY, THE EFFORTS TO SUPPORT LIFEGUARD PROGRAMS IN THE REGION CONTINUE IN JACO AND ESTERILLOS!

The Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Municipality of Garabito made possible the integration of four lifeguards in Jaco Beach during Semana Santa.  Marvin Perez, Rigoberto Villalobos Vásquez, César Herrera Samudio and Lizandro Porras Garita were the 4 lifeguards who cared for the swimmers who visited the beaches of Jaco during those days.  Further South in the district of Parrita, The Beaches of Esterillos Association of Community Helpers (B.E.A.C.H.) has been established.  This is a grassroots Not for Profit organization in Esterillos, Costa Rica with a purpose of providing funding for the Lifeguard Program in the community and its surrounding beaches. Since the start of this program in December 2008, the community of Esterillos Oeste has constructed three lifeguard towers, two mobile and one stationary which was reconstructed from an old tower the ocean currents spared.  Local restaurants and hotels are cooperating with donated lunches for the lifeguards and accommodations for visiting water rescue instructors.  For More Information Contact:   eobeach@gmail.com; Rosemary Chamberlain Bonilla rosemary.ch@gmail.com  or Nelle Nemecek – ekahi@bellsouth.net.  If you are interested in helping support a similiar program in Jaco, please contact the local Chamber of Commerce at 2643-2853.
