The City of Jaco Successfully Attains The Blue Flag

JACO SUCCESSFULLY ATTAINS THE CITY ECOLOGICAL BLUE FLAG!  Last Thursday April 14th, the Blue Flag Committee of Jaco attended the 50th anniversary of AyA at the National Theater of Costa Rica. The event was attended by the President of the Republic, Mrs. Laura Chinchilla, Minister of Health Dr. Maria Luisa Avila, CEO of AyA Mr. Oscar Nunez and Vice President of the Republic Dr. Luis Liberman. During the event, Ms. Sonia Alvarado, representing the city of Jaco, was who received the ecological blue flag. In addition, the Escuela Lider Central de Jaco was awarded as Water Watchers.

THE ECOLOGICAL BLUE FLAG PROGRAM is going to hold a party for children of Lagunillas next Friday November 26th, 2010. They are asking for gifts for children of ages between 6 and 12 years old. If you are interested in helping with this program, please bring your donations to the office of the Chamber of Commerce in the Commercial Pacific Center, local # 26, Jaco, or contact 2643-2853.

THIS IS THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR THAT THE CITY OF JACO WON THE ECOLOGICAL BLUE FLAG

The activity of hoisting the flag was held on Friday May 28th at 10:00 am at the Central Park of Jacó. The activity was attended by special guests such as Mr. Oscar Nuñez, President of Aqueducts; Mr. Darner Mora, representative of AyA; Sonia Alvarado, president of Blue Flag Committee of Garabito; Mrs. Gabriela Arias, Central Pacific Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Marvin Elizondo, Mayor of Garabito; and representatives of the Municipal Council. In addition, several educational institutions in the area were honored for their efforts, with this great flag: Capulin School, Republic of Guyana School , Quebrada Amarilla School, Quebrada Ganado High School, Quebrada Ganado School, Herradura School , Leader of Tárcoles School , Falcon International School, Central Leader of Jacó School.

CONGRATULATION TO THE FOLLOWING EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS OF GARABITO, WHICH WON STARS FOR THEIR PARTICIPATION IN THE ECOLOGICAL BLUE FLAG PROGRAM.  The following schools received 3 stars:  Quebrada Ganado School, Herradura School, Lider de Tarcoles School, Falcon International School and Lider Central de Jacó School.  Quebrada Ganado Secondary School received 2 stars, and Capulín School, Republica de Guayana School and Quebrada Amarilla School all received 1 star.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DOÑA SONIA ALVARADO

Doña Sonia received, in previous weeks, the Quality of Life Award given by the Ombudsman (Defensoría de los Habitantes) of our country, the Rectors National Association and the State Universities. Sonia Alvarado is responsible for the Blue Flag Committee of our canton, has always fought for clean beaches, water systems and communities. Thanks to her Garabito received its first Jacó Ecological Blue Flag.
